Just seven years ago, a movie with Aamir Khan, Deepak Tijori, and a fairly new actress (Ayesha Jhulka) and music by Jatin-Lalit released. The result: Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar. This year, the same pair of actors and music director combine with Ranee Mukherjee to come up with Ghulam. A song even resembles the fabulous "Pelha Nasha" of seven years ago, but the movie doesn't resemble JJWS… not even a little bit.

Violence and rage is the name of this movie, with a short love story twisted somewhere in the middle. Siddharth (Aamir Khan) is a Mumbai tapori, a boxing champion. His brother, Jai, makes money through a former boxing champion who now rules the community through terrorizing people and stealing money from innocent merchants. Siddharth saw his father's death when he was a child; this mentally effected him throughout his life. His father's words remained with him, though he had only been with his father for a little while. Siddharth meets a young woman, Ayesha (Ranee Mukherjee) who rides with a motorcycle gang and Charlie (Deepak Tijori). This is a flavor for some comedy and a brilliant scene in which Siddharth is running towards a train and as the train is only a few feet away he jumps out of the way.

Siddharth and Ayesha meet for the first time and fall in love, and the typical love story follows. Siddharth meets another person who reminds him of his father, Hari. He learns a bit more from this man of wisdom and helps him in his truth. How he does this and the how the message of Hari and his father is carried out should be witnessed in the movie.

Overall, the movie bores at times and excites at times. Aamir Khan is terrific. His emotions are more dramatic and exciting than any other actor in the industry, today. It's too bad that the movie was not as exciting as his acting. Ranee Mukherjee does a good job, and her acting has improved dramatically since her debut in Raja Ki Aayegi Baarat. All the other actors perform brilliantly, but the movie doesn't come to the actor's standards. The songs are perfect for the movie, even Aamir Khan's "Aati Kya Khandala" works perfect with the movie. The one thing that is lacking in this movie is direction. The use of a better director would have created a better movie. The same could have been said for Fareb, Vikram Bhatt's last direction venture, in which the acting was brilliant (for newcomers Milind Gunaji, Faraaz Khan, and Suman Ranganathran) and the direction was below par.

As the name has it, the story revolved around a blue-coloured umbrella. An eleven-year-old Biniya, who lives in a small village tucked away in the mountains, doesn't have too many things to delight her self. And one fine day when she discovers the blue umbrella, she is completely zapped. She had never before seen something so vibrant and beautiful.

It becomes a priceless possession. Something she would not let her eyes off.

But what Biniya doesn't know is that even Nandkishor is smitten by its beauty and can do anything to lay his hands on it.

Nandkishor or Nandu is the proud-owner of a tea-stall. Lazy and easy-going, he keeps lying on his charpoy and dreams of making it big one day.

But Nandu is not the only one to covet the umbrella. Its presence disturbs the harmony of the entire village.

And as destiny would have it, the prized-possession goes missing.

But Biniya is determined to get it back and thus begins the journey. She sets up her own investigation team and what unfurls is all too surprising.The film is narrated in a very interesting style and the story spills out gradually. The slow pace highlights human emotions, thus displaying his excellent craftsmanship yet again.Yes, it is an adaptation of Ruskin Bond's short story but remember, it is no joke to bring to life these characters.
Bhardwaj not just manages it superbly but uses the metaphorical tale to question man's pursuit for power and dominance and raises questions about materialistic pleasure and its futility.

All this may sound a bit philosophical and heavily-loaded and seem out of place for a children's film, but when the scenes unfold and story moves ahead, these unsaid thoughts open in the most innocent and unadulterated manner.

Afterall Bharadwaj has a knack for making children's films.To enhance the director's effort, cinematographer Sachin K Krishn plays a very important role. The beauty with which he captures the moments gives out a gripping fragrance.Pankaj Kapur's performance is, as usual, wonderful. The actor has once again proven that he can portray any character with an equal amount of zeal and precision. His slapdash look and enjoyable accent adds a boost to the film.
After Shweta Prasad, Shreya Sharma is yet another remarkable discovery of Bhardwaj. The incorruptibility of Biniya is depicted so convincingly by Shreya, that not even once do you feel she's just a beginner.

Blue Umbrella may be a children's film but has lots of lessons for everyone.
It may not cater to the audiences from every school of thought and may not have a raging effect at the box-office, but it's indeed a venture which can be cherished.

Khosla ka Ghosla is one of the best films in 2006. But because of its simple cast, it has been underrated and has not got the recognition it deserves. In fact, before I went for the movie, I myself thought that this was a bore. It is a beautiful and realistic film.

There is simple humour, which just helps in 'digesting' the plot. The good thing is that all the actors, (even the ones speaking just one or two dialogues) give a superb performance. Anupak Kher acts really well. I have no words to describe Boman Irani's acting. He is amazing. he just does not act the same in any movie. I also liked Navin Nischol's acting a lot. Apart from that, Parvin Dabas, Vinay Pathak and Ranvir Shorey give terrific performances.

Dibakar Banerjee has directed the film beautifully. It is beautifully paced. Every scene is an important scene in the film. It is not dragged. As far as music is concerned, music is not really needed. But I think Bapi-Tutul and Dhruv Dhalla gave superb background score. KKG just reinforces the fact that there is no dearth of acting talent in India, just that one must not go for a film just because it has a star cast. A star would have taken the simplicity of the film. In short, KKG is an awesome film, and one which everybody will relish.

this is movie is fantastic. two things; i seen this movies in Bombay( Mumbai) where it had no subtitles. i didn't understand a single word that was being said but i totally understood almost every scene in the film ,(except those that all new characters in them).

luckily i had just read Maximum City, Bombay Lost and Found By sekula Metha, which details a lot of the events in the movie. i am from Ireland and i don't speak any of the languages in th film. Marastaha? Hindi? As an exercise in visual film Making it was excellent. i cant wait to watch this again with subtitles

K. Dus Kahaniya falls in the line of the daring attempts made by few directors of presenting different stories of different people in one movie. But this was the most unique of all them, till today. Dus Kahaniya is just like somebody buying a short story book from a book shop which comprises for 10 different stories. But the real flaw, which i think was, i was never attemted to establish a link between these stories which may also be said as the unique point of the movie. But i don't think this gamble paid off.

Also i would certainly mention about a few stories which i personally liked, from the flock presented,were Rice Plate(Nassir Sahab and Shabana Aajmi ji,directed by Rohit Roy), Zahir (Manoj Bajpai and Dia Mirza, Directed by Sanjay Gupta) and Puranmasi(Amrtia Singh,Minnisha Lamba and Permeet Sethi, directed by Meghana Gulzar).

I would certainly say that people should watch the movie and if you don't watch it expecting links between the stories this one you will certainly like.

Here i would also mention that the most disappointing person was Apporv Lakhiya. I think the story was not new to the public, for me at least. I expect more form him after seeing some of his brilliant work.

Heyy Babyy is about three horny men - Arush (Akshay Kumar, he does need to do something about that gummy smile), Eddie (Ritesh Deshmukh, the only watch able character in the movie, if not the most loveable), and Al (Fardeen Khan, someone please tell him he resembles a potato sack, AND he should NOT act). The three men have only one goal (wow), to bed as many women as they can. They all live together in a swanky house in Sidney, and hold questionable jobs. Arush is the manager of a nightclub, Eddie plays the bear in children’s parties and amusement parks, and Al I am not sure. (Since their professions are declared in the beginning in the movie, and you never see anyone doing their jobs but Eddie, but that is simply because of his costume.)

The film opens with the title song by the same name, and we see these ‘studs’ singing, dancing, ogling openly at a lot of women, spanking their bottoms, rubbing their crotches against them, even trying to disrobe them and pour champagne all over them. The women don’t seem to mind one bit; instead they flutter their eyelashes and make orgasmic faces.

Cut to the next day where our mighty heroes are snoring in the arms of semi-naked white women when the doorbell rings and they are horrified to find a baby girl at their doorstep, with a note that says something to the effect that “its your daughter and you gotta take care of her now.” The heroes are naturally quite shaken by this and an unfunny debate ensues about “who’s your daddy baby” in a sequence which goes on forever and ends only after the baby starts crying. Our heroes quickly establish that the baby is hungry and they need to feed her. So a quick trip to the supermarket is made. (To buy baby food of course, but the camera misses that and pans to Huggies, Pampers, etc.)

AK (Akshay Kumar) encounters a pair of mammoth mammaries (proudly displayed), gets slapped for indecent questioning, discovers that ‘nipples’ aren’t necessarily always a part of anatomy, and gets back with a truckload of baby food supplies among favorite biscuits for his friends

The most impressive role of Gabbar by Amjad Khan was portrayed extremely well.

Its also one the longest movie. Its quite normal for bollywood movies to be 3 hours long. But this one is even longer than this. But certainly ever minute of the movie is enjoyable.

An opportunity strikes Baldev in the form of a T.V. Show. He trains a local boy to get into this media hyped boxing show, but is ditched for a better coach at the last minute. Baldev's younger son Karan (Bobby Deol) has just launched his first music album. Realizing his father is in crises of his life, he gives up his dream of a musical career to get into the game of boxing. Karan works hard and wins all through thinking that his victory will bring the two pillars of his family together. After winning within the nation, he wins all over the world.

The final match is with the current world heavy champion. The match goes fine, but Karan is tricked and he ends up paralyzed in a hospital bed. Baldev, who wanted to wash a stigma is now about to loose his son. He feels like killing himself. Angad steps in to turn the game upside down and bring his father the happiness of a lifetime

Fans of singer-composer Himesh Reshammiya will be quite pleased with his debut film as an actor – ‘Aap Ka Surroor: The Moviee: The Real Luv Story’.

The movie, directed by Himesh’s longtime friend Prashant Chaddha, is not based on Reshammiya’s life. It is a fiction story that anyway answers some FAQs about the singer-musician.

In Aap Ka Surroor’ is based on a wafer thin plot. On top of it, the film’s script and dialogues are very filmy. But director Prashant Chaddha makes the flick interesting by telling the story very stylishly and at a brisk pace. In fact, the film is akin to an outstretched music video that packs in different ingredients necessary for a masala entertainer: romance, music, drama and action.

The film’s USP is its music. Songs like ‘Asalaam Valekum’, ‘Tera Mera Milna’, ‘Tanhainyan’ and ‘Mehbooba’ are a delight to ears. However, the placement of ‘Mehbooba’ (with Mallika) could have been better.

While Himesh impresses as a music composer of the film, he fails to make any mark as an actor. He is stiff, he is conscious of the camera and he tries to act as if he has all the pain in the world. This act begins to look superficial after a while. Anyway, considering it is his first attempt at acting, some leniency should be shown in evaluating his performance.

Hansika Motwani is cute and gorgeous. Although she is confident in front of the camera, her acting skills need some polishing.

Mallika Sherawat looks sexy and plays her part of a vamp very well. The change in her character in the second half was unexpected.
his acting debut, Himesh is too uptight before the camera. For the most part he wears a brooding look that has by now become quite typical of him. And the emotions that he expresses in the film are those of sadness, pain, anguish, helplessness and anger. In fact, after some time the movie begins to look like a vanity collage of Himesh Reshammiya.

‘Aap Ka Surroor’ tells the story of HR (Himesh), a rock star on a musical tour in Germany. He falls in love at first sight with Riaa (Hansika Motwani), the event manager of his concert.

`The Legend of Bhagat Singh' is an excellent example for flawless filming of the life of a magnificent martyr. Raj Kumar Santhoshi is a director known for raising many quiescent questions and not supplementing the same with adequate answers, but this film was entirely different. The director did the film under petrifying pressure rapidly racing it out with five other filmmakers in bringing the brilliant Bhagat to tinsel town. The superceding selection of authentic actors would have greatly given initial comfort to the director. Ajay Devgan as Bhagat Singh, Susan Singh as Sukhdev, Santhosh as Rajguru, Akilendra Mishra as Chandrasekar Azad, Raj Babbar and Farida Jalal as Bhagat's parents all of them made a mind-blowing mark for themselves in this miraculous movie and in the history of Bollywood. The sub cast lead by Amrita Rao, who plays fiancée were no inferior in delivering the goods. A particular mention to be made of the jailor, and the actors who played the roles of Emerson and Gandhiji .The soundest strength of the film was the amazing ability of Rajkumar Santhoshi to impeccably interweave sentiments and dramatic scenes amidst the course of the film , jubilantly justifying history all the way. The suitable sequences for the former fact are the court scene where gosh approves, Sarfaroshi Ki Tamana song, Bhagat's farewell to his mother etc. The cinematography and art direction have done wonderfully well to keep up with the classy cinema. The lyricist and dialogue writer have been efficiently equal to the tumultuous task and their resourceful role has been a pivotal point in the film. One phenomenal personality who had lent the cutting edge to this memorable movie is `Music Midas' a r rahman. The way rahman marvelously meddles with our minds, moods and music is yet another record of his activating ability and acquaintable acumen. He deserves a resolute round of applause for unbelievably using Sonu Nigam and Sukhwinder Singh. Though the film had not tipped TIPS, the producers benevolently at the baffling box office, the immaculate impact it created is not negligible. It is slowly and steadily creating a sound stardom for Bhagat Singh amongst the youth of the country, which was the cause of the film.

Dilwale made me glad to be a Westerner, just so I could experience the sheer rush in the glorious way this film simply throws its Indian sensibility in your face. It is one of the most completely, openly joyful films I have ever seen. In many ways a totally Western film, it is yet completely un-Western, and absolutely invigorating.

I found the (rather oddly looped in places) mix of Hindustani(?) and English dialog to be a lot of fun to follow (as incomplete as the subtitles sometimes seemed). The Indian/Western pop structure of the songs was entertaining and infectious. The choreography is simply amazing, and some of the most sheerly athletic I've seen. The Indian roots of the dance routines were at first almost unnerving--at once familiar yet bizarre, almost surreal (to my Western eyes). It was sheer fun making the cultural adjustment.

The plot is predictable, almost pedestrian--certainly not what you'd call "never done before," and yet I found myself completely absorbed in the story, and rooting for the main characters. This is in large part due to Shahrukh Khan's and Kajol's performances as Raj and Simran. He is totally endearing, and she is totally hot! and their onscreen chemistry is as cute & perky and smoldering & steamy as Fred and Ginger at their peak. It was, simply put, fun to watch them having so much fun.

Director Aditya Chopra was, I understand, only 24 when he made Dilwale, and the film was so successful its Indian first run lasted five years. A heckuva testimony to Bollywood indeed. This movie has instantly become one of my favorite musicals, and I look forward to finding more films from Chopra, Khan, and Kajol. What a treat!
